New: Scan Your VIN With a Photo — No More Typing 17 Characters

You can now point your phone camera at a VIN plate, door jamb sticker, or windshield tag and Taziky reads the VIN for you. No more squinting at 17 characters and mixing up 0 and O.

Typing a VIN is the worst part of checking a car

A VIN is 17 characters of letters and digits that were never designed for humans to copy by hand. One transposed character and your lookup comes back empty — or worse, describes a different vehicle.

So we removed the typing.

How it works

Next to the VIN field on Taziky you'll now see a scan option. Tap it and you get two choices:

  • Take a photo — point your camera at the VIN wherever it appears: the windshield tag, the driver-side door jamb sticker, the title, or an auction listing photo.
  • Choose from gallery — already have a photo from the lot or a screenshot from a listing? Upload it directly.

Our scanner reads the image, finds the VIN, and validates it against the standard 17-character format (it knows a VIN never contains the letters I, O, or Q, so it won't confuse them with 1 and 0 the way human eyes do). The recognized VIN drops straight into the form, and you can double-check it before running your lookup.

Tips for a clean scan

  • Get close enough that the VIN fills most of the frame.
  • Door jamb stickers scan more reliably than windshield tags, which sit behind glass and pick up reflections.
  • Daylight or the phone flash both work — avoid strong glare at an angle.
  • Photos up to 12 MB are accepted, so full-resolution shots are fine.

Why it matters at the auction

When you're walking a Copart or IAA lot checking a dozen candidate cars, hand-typing VINs is where mistakes happen. Snap, scan, verify — and every history report and value estimate you pull is guaranteed to be for the exact car in front of you.

The scanner is live for all users now. If it misreads a plate (dirty, bent, or badly lit VINs happen), you can always correct the field by hand — and each scan you run helps us keep improving recognition.
